This was really good! I love the reminder that marketing isn't about becoming someone else and that a website or brand shouldn't be performative. Great post!
Thank you so much for having me, Mica! ❤️ All that comes along with a tiny word, marketing, can so easily frustrate and discourage a perfectly capable writer or creative. It's a funny world with its fancy industry words, and polished clang, though in the end, it's just expression within structure, just like books and essays. And just like books and essays, it works best when done your own, unique style and voice.
Two of my favourite people in one place! It was lovely to hear your voices together.
And super interesting and helpful tips too. So many that I need to make a list! That idea that a) we are writers yet we don't like to tell stories about our stories and then b) the idea that we have to become someone different when it comes to marketing and putting ourselves out there. And that really important idea that all social media is "rented space". And that was just in the first five minutes 😅 I love the messages about consistency (and coherence) too.
I know Elina first and foremost as a writer, so it was really great to hear her talking about her other area of expertise. Though I'm excited about Elina's "slow book" coming to fruition too!
The downside is now I want to spend the rest of the day tweaking my website! Finally: death to "curated vulnerability"!
Our beloved lists! 🖤 Elina was so helpful and agree, there were so many great messages packed in our interview. I can’t wait to see what you apply to your website!
I'm really glad it was helpful! And if you feel you want to go and tweak your website after listening, I guess it's done its job because that's how your website should feel, a place you want to take care of 😊
When the book (which will certainly not include curated vulnerability 🤭) starts to take its form, you'll be the first to know as I will knock on your door and ask editorial services 😁❤️
You've really made me think "do I need a website" at this stage? I'm thinking now that I probably should start putting one together, which sounds like a daunting task! I am off to listen to your chat now. 💖
A website is never ready. Start small. Too often people try to accomplish a huge set of pages and make them all ready before launching -- then it becomes a mountain to climb. You can start with only an About page including a bio, contact info, and links to your writing, and keep building from there.
That’s exactly what I had thought too. I don’t offer services (unless I link my OnlyFans 🤭🤭) so a pointer in the direction of Substack writing and my socials will do for now.

Thank you! It was another great interview. I learn so much from these!

As they say, the pleasure was all mine. It’s refreshing to be able to look at my overall approach with my creative eye. It has become fun again 🖤
That's exactly how it should feel: doable, creative, and fun!
No surprise this was a great conversation. Really thoughtful/useful ways to think about a writer website. Well done, Mica and Elina! ❤️
Thanks Marci! It was a fun conversation and I love how Elina broke it down in ways we can understand
Thank you, Marci! I'm so happy you found it useful ❤️

We will be rooting for your story, Elina!
You certainty did do your job - brilliantly! I would love to read your novel, whenever it is ready for outside eyes 🥰
Great tips so far, and I've saved the podcast to listen to later, looking forward to it.
My problem is that I bad at implementing all these ideas. But let's see if I can make sense of your chat and then act on it!
